Designing a Digital Experience Around the New Era of Self-Care

Massage Envy was evolving its brand and shifting from a perception of occasional indulgence to an essential partner in ongoing wellness. The digital experience needed to reflect this transformation, translating a new brand promise into something customers could see, feel, and navigate with ease.

As Creative Director and Designer, I led the effort to bring the new brand to life across digital platforms, creating a cohesive ecosystem that positioned Massage Envy’s services as fundamental to modern self-care while simplifying the path to booking and engagement.

The Challenge

The brand refresh introduced a more elevated and wellness-focused identity, but the existing digital experience did not fully support that vision.

Key objectives included:

  • Express the new brand consistently across desktop, mobile, and app
  • Reframe services as necessary components of a self-care regimen, not luxuries
  • Make it effortless for users to find locations and schedule appointments
  • Reduce friction in high-intent moments
  • Create a seamless cross-platform experience that felt unified and intuitive

This wasn’t just a redesign, it was a behavioral shift from occasional visits to habitual care.

The Solution

The work centered on aligning brand, experience, and functionality into a single connected system.

 

Translating Brand Into Experience

I led the digital expression of the refreshed brand, ensuring every interaction reinforced calm, credibility, and care.

The design emphasized:

  • Spacious, breathable layouts that evoked relaxation
  • Elevated typography and imagery aligned with wellness culture
  • A refined color system that balanced warmth with sophistication
  • UI patterns that felt supportive rather than transactional

The result was an experience that mirrored the emotional benefit of the service itself.

 

Positioning Self-Care as Essential

Content and visual storytelling were intentionally structured to normalize ongoing wellness—presenting massage, skincare, and recovery services as part of a healthy routine rather than an occasional reward.

This subtle reframing helped move the brand from treat to treatment.

 

Frictionless Booking

Because scheduling is the brand’s highest-value conversion moment, the experience was redesigned to prioritize speed and clarity.

In partnership with UX, we:

  • Simplified location discovery
  • Streamlined appointment flows
  • Reduced decision fatigue
  • Designed consistent booking patterns across devices

Users could move from consideration to confirmation with minimal effort.

 

A Seamless Ecosystem

Consistency across desktop, mobile, and app was critical. I established a flexible design system that ensured the brand showed up cohesively everywhere, while enabling teams to scale new services and features with confidence.

The redesigned ecosystem helped reposition Massage Envy as a modern wellness brand while improving usability across critical journeys.
